About

About GaugePass

A welding inspection reference and practice site, built around the one thing a study guide cannot give you: repetitions at reading a weld.

Two layers, one domain

The free reference covers 40 weld symbols, 50 filler metals, 25 discontinuities, 15 welding math topics and 12 process and examination pages. On top of it sits the practice side: 420 questions, 200 terminology cards and a trainer that grades your gauge readings on generated weld cross-sections. The reference stays open to everyone; the paid tier adds practice depth.

It is meant for welders moving toward inspection work and for anyone studying for the AWS Certified Welding Inspector examination.

Whose material this is

The pages, questions, answer explanations and weld-symbol drawings are GaugePass's own work, written for this site, so there is no outside source to cite for them.

Guides appear under the GaugePass name and carry no personal byline. In the page metadata the author of each guide is the GaugePass organization, and the site claims no inspection certificate or welding credential for anyone behind it.

GaugePass is the work of one independent developer, who also publishes ThreadRef, CogoKit, FittingKey and RefDrill.

Each guide shows the date on which its wording was last altered.

What it will not do for you

No clause text, table, figure or acceptance criterion from any welding code is reproduced here. The discontinuity pages explain how an inspector reasons about a flaw; whether a given flaw passes is settled by the document that governs your job, and that is the document to open.

Not affiliated with or endorsed by the American Welding Society. CWI® and AWS® are registered marks of the American Welding Society.

The CWI examination is named only to say what the practice is useful for. GaugePass is not a training provider or an accredited course, and a purchase here has no bearing on any certification application or result.
