SMAW · Carbon steel

E6022

A high-speed production rod for single-pass lap and fillet welds on sheet and light plate, laying a wide flat bead at travel speeds a general purpose rod cannot match.

What the designation means

  1. EElectrode for shielded metal arc welding.
  2. 6060,000 psi minimum tensile strength of the weld metal.
  3. 2Restricted to the flat position and horizontal fillets rather than all positions.
  4. 2High iron oxide covering, run on alternating current or direct current electrode negative.

Typical uses

  • Single-pass lap joints on sheet steel in production fixtures
  • High speed horizontal fillets on light plate
  • Repetitive short welds where cycle time drives the choice of rod

How it runs

  • Very high travel speed with a fluid, wide puddle
  • Flat, wash-in bead profile that blends smoothly at the toes
  • Heavy iron oxide slag that must be removed before any further pass
  • Intended for single-pass work only, not for multipass buildup

Storage and handling

Standard dry storage in the sealed container is adequate; this is not a moisture-controlled low-hydrogen covering.
